The Story of iCARE

The iCARE Vision Protection Initiative was founded with a simple but urgent goal: to raise awareness about preventable eye diseases and promote vision care to underserved communities worldwide.

The Problem...

According to the WHO, the five leading causes of blindness worldwide are cataracts, uncorrected refractive errors, glaucoma, age-related macular degenerations, and diabetic retinopathies.

Among these...

Cataracts and macular degeneration are strongly associated with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. What's more, early detection and timely intervention remain the most effective strategies for preventing vision loss in all five conditions.

Yet...

Millions around the world still lack access to basic eye care services or the awareness needed to protect their vision from a young age.

Our Solution...

Motivated by this public health gap, we launched the iCARE Vision Protection Initiative to promote UV protection and increase access to eye care education among youth and underserved communities.

Through the redistribution and donation of sunglasses, free vision screenings, and educational campaigns, we work to build lasting awareness around eye health in medically underserved areas, empowering individuals to protect their sight for the long term.

Our First Mission...

We chose the high-altitude Himalayan regions as our first service location in 2025, due to the intense UV radiation levels and extremely limited access to ophthalmic care. These communities, often underserved and geographically isolated, face daily exposure to preventable vision threats without the necessary resrouces to address them.

Therefore...

We have successfully collected, redistributed, and donated over one hundred pairs of sunglasses to Ladakhi residents, offering vital protection against high-altitude UV exposure, a leading contributor to preventable vision loss in the region.

In collaboration with local healthcare professionals, our team launched a mobile eye clinic to deliver on-site vision screenings and essential services directly to remote and underserved communities.

Moreover...

Beyond clinical outreach, we conducted in-depth educational campaigns across healthcare centers and schools, equipping individuals—especially youth—with practical knowledge about eye health and preventive care. Through these efforts, the iCARE initiative is helping to lay the foundation for a more informed, proactive, and vision-conscious future.

Moving Forward...

iCARE is committed to advancing eye care awareness and education in Ladakh for years to come, while continuing to make meaningful, day-to-day impacts through our permanently stationed mobile clinic, bringing accessible, preventive care directly to the communities that need it most.

And...

We are actively expanding our reach through engaging educational videos, soon to be featured on our Instagram platform, to make eye care knowledge more accessible worldwide! We’re also working to broaden our impact beyond Ladakh, with plans to bring our initiatives to new communities such as
