Our Ladakh Trip...

iCARE delivers free clinical services that bring professional eye care directly to underserved communities. In Ladakh, our team of ophthalmologists and student volunteers traveled across remote villages at altitudes above 3,500 meters, offering vision screenings, distributing protective eyewear, and treating common eye conditions on the spot. Each clinic combined medical expertise with compassionate outreach, ensuring that hundreds of residents received not only immediate care but also the tools and guidance to protect their vision in the long term.

iCARE recruited professional ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive eye examinations for local residents, offering services such as visual acuity testing, slit-lamp evaluations, and detailed consultations. These on-site clinics reached monks and villagers alike, delivering early detection of eye conditions and immediate care guidance to protect vision in the region’s challenging high-altitude environment.

iCARE’s team of professional ophthalmologists continued their on-site clinics by performing direct ophthalmoscope examinations. These careful assessments allowed early detection of conditions such as cataracts and other UV-related eye disorders, ensuring that villagers received timely guidance and appropriate follow-up care.

Other iCARE members assisted the professional ophthalmologists by helping with visual acuity tests, preparing and guiding patients for examinations, and explaining basic eye-care practices. Their support ensured that each patient moved smoothly through the screening process and received clear instructions for follow-up care.

These clinics highlighted how teamwork amplifies impact. While the ophthalmologists delivered expert care, the volunteers’ coordination and patient support made large-scale eye screenings possible in remote areas. Together, they demonstrated how community-driven initiatives can bridge gaps in essential health services.
